'Subject Matters' - Ben Sherar

In a departure from my last two solo shows, this latest exhibition is comprised of a collection of still life works featuring everyday objects from my own belongings, a large part of which were either made or grown by me.

Exploring the technical aspects of lighting many different types of objects, I have produced paintings that open up the possibility of different narratives in the viewer’s mind.

Each object portrayed in the paintings already holds a meaning for me, but in the repositioning and sometimes unusual compositions of these items, I have explored the different meanings that may be ascribed to the works by fresh eyes.
