ECSTASIS AND THE ALCHEMY OF THINGS - Kay Wood
ECSTASIS AND THE ALCHEMY OF THINGS
Ecstasis
To stand in awe of the wonder and mystery that is our universe and our place in it.
We are told that within the flux of phenomena, and embedded in the very structure of life itself, is fractal geometry – a system of repeating, holographic patterns – even time – and as we exist within the universe so its patterns and structures are within us. Yet our perception, unaided by technology, cannot see this order. As receptacles, we can only sense the energy and intuit the design, receiving the vibrations, filtering them, and offering them back in the form of creative constructions that attempt to reconcile inner desires with outward experiences.

Alchemy
To transform
Acceptance of what IS is key in the transformative aspects of alchemy and creative being. The works in this exhibition take the form of devotional objects (apparently purposeless things) to pay homage to something unknowable, but recognisable. The ‘fragment’ is an important element. Although life’s experiences may appear disjunctive and chaotic, these paintings and sculptures are faith in an implicate synergistic order. Sometimes an air of wobbliness with points of slippage and leakage gives a slightly unstable feel. Yet, despite a certain precarity, the things involved hold themselves together, in self awareness.
All things are only things for a time.
